It's the early solo CAPTAIN AMERICA series from TALES OF SUSPENSE # 59-81. Lee & Kirby, with Chic Stone, George Tuska, Frank Giacoia, John Romita, John Tartaglione and Don Heck. These are simple, straightahead action stories; the Red Skull three-parter ending the volume is a hint of things to come. Kirby from this era is always good, and this selection lets us see his pencil art and layouts under VERY different inkers, all good, including the underrated Don Heck. The reproduction is excellent-- not always the case with the Masterworks or DC Archives-- and the recoloring outstanding. It avoids the garish flatness of some of the Masterworks in favor of a subdued but simple scheme that accents the stories without overwhelming the linework. There is also none of the ugly, dark and amateurish overmodeling that mars recent Marvel reprints. A FINE job.
What can i say about this book it starts out with the first modern appearance of cap in the avengers #4 then jumps to his tales of suspence run followed up by some of his best solo stuff in his own book in the early 70's no true cap fan should be without this book.you will not see anything new in this book but what you do see and read is well worth it.
Well, it did stick to the storyline for the most part but took out most of the humor. The ending stopped before Cap crashed the plane and all of the drama and sadness totally wasn't there. A good children's book but Isn't like a fanfiction like I was half hoping it would be. BUCKY DOES NOT DIE IN HERE. As I said, geared toward kids more. Slightly enjoyable nonetheless.
This is the Captain America book that should start your Silver Age Cap collection. An incredible run from Cap's Tales of Suspense run that features a great deal of Jack Kirby art. Do not miss it.
I also got this book for my grandson who is 7yrs. old and it has a lot of pictures which makes it easier to get into but so far he hasn't had the desire to sit and read it. I think maybe in the summer he may wanna read it since he won't have homework to contend with at the same time. Great book in my opinion but I love to read. I think if your child is a big reader it would be a great buy.
