内容简介 With the latest research and methods to help you become an effective professional in today's diverse world, ESSENTIAL INTERVIEWING makes the interview clear and specific for anyone training to work in the helping professions. By clearly defining the core communication skills essential to any interview and vividly demonstrating their effective use, the authors give you the tools to conduct successful interviews in a variety of situations. With an emphasis on client Story (listening and helping clients tell their tales), Restory (helping clients think about their lives and the world in new ways), and Action (what needs to be done to make the story come to life), ESSENTIAL INTERVIEWING offers you the same programmed-learning model of interviewing that has successfully trained countless members of the helping professions for nearly 30 years.

编辑推荐 Review "I think the standout strength is the abundance of clear, accurate examples of skill use. The examples of typical mistakes counselors make are also very helpful. These two features save my students and me a tremendous amount of time in the explanation and justification of various skills. The way the book walks students through skills, engaging them in the process, is also very helpful. The expanded coverage of multicultural implications at the close of each chapter and the inclusion of skill use with children are great improvements."
"The writing style is very engaging, and keeps my students attention nicely. The 4-stage Program is an excellent revision and will facilitate student understanding and learning. The additional Chapter 6 is also an excellent addition to facilitate student understanding and learning. The revised chapter organization is a great improvement

"Overall, I thought each chapter was excellent. I have experienced good success with my students using the previous edition of Essential Interviewing. After reviewing the 7th edition I will anxiously await being able to utilize the new edition in my class. More than anything I think this is a text that my students can identify with--it teaches them that there are right and wrong solutions, but that not everything is always clear-cut."
